The NDIS provides assistance to those who have physical, intellectual, sensory, cognitive, or behavioural disabilities. The NDIS Service collaborates with you to find the services you require to attain your goals in a variety of areas of your life. This would include autonomy, community participation, education, career, health, and overall well-being. The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission is a non-profit organization that was founded to improve on the following:

  • Permanent and significant disability: If you have a permanent disability, it is likely that you will remain disabled for the rest of your life. A major disability has a considerable influence on your capacity to do daily activities.
  • Supports and services: Help assist a person in their daily lives, allowing them to engage in the community and achieve their goals.
  • Early intervention: helping a person, whether a child or an adult, as early as possible in order to mitigate the effects of impairment or developmental problems.

The NDIS is accessible in all states and territories of Australia, including:

  • Australian Capital Territory
  • Northern Territory
  • New South Wales
  • South Australia
  • Queensland
  • Western Australia
  • Victoria
  • Tasmania

What Disability Does NDIS Cover?

List A- Conditions that are likely to meet the disability requirements in section 24 of the NDIS Act.

  • Intellectual disability 
  • Autism diagnosed by a specialist 
  • Cerebral palsy 
  • Genetic conditions
  • Spinal cord injury or brain injury 
  • Permanent bilateral hearing 
  • Deaf-blindness confirmed by an ophthalmologist 
  • Amputation or congenital absence of two limbs.

List B – Permanent conditions for which functional capacity is variable and further assessment of functional capacity is generally required.

1. Conditions primarily resulting in intellectual/ learning impairment, such as:

  • Intellectual disability
  • Asperger syndrome
  • Atypical autism
  • Childhood autism
  • Chromosomal abnormalities resulting in permanent impairment not specified on List A

2. Conditions primarily resulting in neurological impairment such as:

  • Alzheimer’s dementia
  • Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
  • HIV dementia
  • Huntington’s disease
  • Multi-infarct dementia
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Post-polio syndrome
  • Vascular dementia.
